My Review (I am not a reviewer - Its just one personal view)
This software came with my first 2 CD writers. The LG that I got in March 2000 with a 90 day warranty, died at about 6 months, and came with version 3 which did almost everything I wanted. It was easy to use, but kept annoying me with error windows usually because the CD writer had not started up yet. But also because my backup files had changed, which was true, but I would prefer an option not to be told. So then you have to refresh and restore your layouts, before writing your backup CDs. It could just get on and do this.. Then when the CD or CD writer played up or errored, the result, often, was a locked up PC, or an unescapable error loop. I then tried the NTI software, but the writer died (*) and so I got my supa dupa Yamaha CRW8824, ultra reliable, and expensive, with its 1 year warranty, and Easy CD version 4. (It died at 17 months) Version 4, which did everything pretty much the same as version 3, but didn't crash as finally, nor so often, but was just as annoying to use. It does not directly copy CDs, so you cant make backups of your important software, but I don't know if any of my CD writing software will, as I only tried once.. A major hassle with this software is that un-install leaves behind a trail of problems with over a dozen unremoved registry entries, and who knows what else. I used a manual Registry editor and removed the registry entries, then did a system scan and fix with Norton Systemworks, before installing Nero successfully. I don't feel placed to advise you to do this, but it worked for me, and I was then able to get on without it. I may be forgiven for a niggling thought that there are people who cannot break the effective addiction.. (*) I now wonder if the LG 'death' was real or Easy CD not allowing NTI to correctly install. |
